FACES OF BLACK JOY; KENT AND MEDWAY

Celebrating Black History Month 2023. TURAKA is collaborating with Julieann Freedom Photography in a historical project.

"Faces of Black Joy" is a photography project dedicated to capturing the essence of our community members through the power of portraiture.

This project is more than just photographs; it's a testament to the rich tapestry of lives, stories, and experiences that make our community so unique. Each portrait is a window into a world of strength, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.

Hi, I’m JulieAnn. I’m a photography artist and have exhibited regularly in several galleries since 2019.

I am based in Medway and shoot in London and throughout Kent and the South-East of England. I specialise in candid portraiture. In essence my work is about capturing people’s truest emotions.

The photography collection I’m currently involved in is a black community based project that nurtures a sense of joy, promotes belonging, and strengthens identity among younger generations.
